Flight
report:
November
10, 2001 , Nicholson PA
Weather, SEVERE CLEAR, light to moderate winds. ~50 -55 deg.
5 fliers turned out for our UNOFFICIAL Launch [YES, we had an FAA waiver
]. We had 2 L1 cert flights
from long distance fliers who drove down all the way from Northern
Vermont.
We
had one lawn dart.. Bobby B's Sumo, piston failure.......ejected
the motor case instead of the nose cone. DR Rocket 29 / 180 motor is
mia. on the field, reward if found and returned. ...Sumo is
repairable... it will be 4 inches shorter the next time it flies......
We flew the L1 flights for Eric and Larry M. early..... Eric's Sumo
ripped.....off the pad......H motors tend to do that kinda thing to
40" long rockets. Larry's Tomahawk was a bit lazy off the pin but
flew well... Drake kept pace with one of his "Heart
Attack" bonus delays in the WAHOO.... full deployment @ ~
23 ft AGL.....looked
like it was good for a 2 ft zipper but there was no damage. " can
you say MIRACLE" .....Eric shot his Black Brandt 2x
with an altimeter on board.... up fast but he got full deployment way
early on both flights......No damage... but it looks way kool when the
streamer and chute deploy @ 100 MPH...... Drakes new "Armageddon"
went for 2 flights.... both nice rides, the first was wobbly
off the stick....second flight left with authority.....Bobby B's
scratch built 38 Special [ 4" dia. x 20"
long looks like a 38 cal. bullet..] flew 2X G38 and
G64.....Little rockets Rip on G's .Gotta luv em... Eric's
"bertha" look alike rocked on an E18.......We filled in
the gaps with a couple of F flights from Bobby B's Initiator and
Tomahawk......Last flights of the day were at ~3:30 PM Drake
with an AT Mustang and I think he lit the PML AMRAAM 2 one more time. ...
Special thanks to our flight recovery crew for the day, Kyle and Seth,
They were very helpful and recovered many flights while we were loading
motors.
